"What The Bleep do We Know!?"

What did you learn from Part One of this article in the last issue of The Healing Path? Have you ever come to at~ease in pain, asking, "How did I get this way?" and "What can I do to prevent it from happening again?" We began to answer those questions in our previous discussion. Now let's build on that knowledge. Let's explore some ways you can release the power of your own life force, to promote wellness for yourself and for your children.

Waiting for symptoms to manifest before seeking chiropractic care essentially means that one is living against the principles of life, not with them. But on a much grander scale, we're really not concerned with your pain and symptoms. Rather, we're concerned with facilitating and increasing the expression of the life force that pulses through your nervous system, to help you reach your highest level of health. When that happens, there is a balance in the body and all of your cells get the message to "live long and prosper." That is what you should want for yourself and your body - and for your kids.

In this way, sickness and disease are prevented without drugs. No one has to wait until they have symptoms or are suffering, before taking action to enhance their health. That's what we call the big idea (see - What is the Big Idea - following this article). Patients who have the big idea get checked regularly - not because of their symptoms, but because of a concept of health that comes from within. And that's why they get their kids checked! Children aren't given chiropractic care so they will have straight spines when they get older (how mechanistic). We treat children to allow an optimum level of health to be expressed through their own innate intelligence in their little bodies, without drugs (that's vitalistic). It's funny, how well this works. In fact, most children who do have physical ailments, from chronic ear infections to diabetes, seem to improve with chiropractic care.

Who does the healing? Not us chiropractors; we're just acknowledging the spiritual power within all of us, and we release it through the adjustment. That is the power that does the healing. It knows how to heal by expressing itself in mass, through the nervous system. That's how your pain goes away.

Remember when we said that under all types of stress, energy flow in the body is blocked? Getting adjusted un-contracts the body, allowing a release of energy into the system. But the body also needs some attention before it gets to the point of contraction. You often forget about it since the last time you were in pain.

Pay attention…to attention! Wherever attention goes, energy flows. Pain is your body's way of telling you to pay attention to it and that something in your life needs to change. It is crying out for your attention because you have taken it for granted. Why risk your health? But most people push it. You know, they see how long they can get away with neglecting themselves before they finally experience pain. For many of you, your body is like a car that doesn't get serviced and doesn't have its oil changed regularly. It starts letting you know by breaking down. Some people take better care of their cars than their own bodies. Which do we drive more?

Some patients ask me when people will no longer need chiropractic care. I have only one answer: when our internal picture is greater than our external environment. Then we will no longer be affected physically by any stress. Until then, we are all subject to the external forces that impact us. Therefore, regular visits in the absence of symptoms, to keep us free of potential problems, are a wise choice. Otherwise we just stay caught in the cycle of pain and pushing the ball uphill. That takes work, time, and a lot of unnecessary suffering.

Every day for the past 20 years, I have observed my patients, as well as myself, relating to health. In my mind, I constantly re-work the models for health. Health is an ongoing process, and good health is balance from within.

There are three phases of health:

  • Relief
  • Correction
  • Maintenance

Relief is the removal of symptoms. Correction means putting energy into the system consistently in order to make a change. Maintenance entails keeping that change constant in the midst of the many external stresses in life.

Chiropractic offers a solution for everyone, because it opens life up from your brain (where it all starts) to your cells (where it all ends), and you are everything in between.

Life is the greatest gift, and I thank the Creator for this opportunity to be part of its expression.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Dispenza
